Oseni: Obi’s Move to NDC Signals Fresh Crisis, Legal Battles Ahead

Nigerian broadcast journalist Rufai Oseni has said the defection of former presidential candidate Peter Obi from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the Nigeria Democratic Congress could trigger fresh challenges for the party.
Speaking on The Morning Show on ARISE Television, Oseni addressed evolving political alignments ahead of the next general election.
He warned that the NDC may soon face internal and legal battles following its recent expansion, alleging that there are ongoing efforts within political circles to stop Obi from contesting in the 2027 election.
Oseni further argued that, based on political assessments by major parties such as the ADC and the All Progressives Congress (APC), Obi is widely viewed as the only opposition figure capable of mounting a serious challenge to President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
“I think this will mark the beginning of more troubles for the NDC, especially with litigation likely to arise, including issues surrounding the party’s registration,” he said.
According to him, the primary objective of rival political forces is to prevent Obi from appearing on the ballot.
“The idea is to ensure Peter Obi is not on the ballot. All forces will do everything possible to make that happen,” Oseni stated.
He added that internal crises previously witnessed within the ADC were largely driven by this objective.
