Osun Election: ADC Raises Alarm Over Alleged Plan To Arrest Aregbesola

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has raised the alarm over an alleged plan by security agencies to arrest its National Secretary, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, just days before the Osun State governorship election.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the party claimed it had received “credible reports” that security agencies were planning to arrest the former Osun State governor ahead of Saturday’s poll.

The ADC said the alleged development was particularly troubling given what it described as a growing pattern of “intimidation, harassment and misuse of state institutions” against opposition parties.

The party insisted that if security agencies had legitimate reasons to question Aregbesola, they should follow due process.

According to the ADC, arresting its National Secretary on the eve of an election could be interpreted as an attempt to disrupt the party’s campaign and prevent him from coordinating its activities.

The party warned the Federal Government and security agencies to exercise restraint, stressing that “the eyes of Nigerians are on Osun.”

It further cautioned the APC-led Federal Government against taking any action capable of plunging the state into crisis, urging authorities to remember that Nigeria remains a democracy.

The ADC also stated that whatever happens before, during and after Saturday’s election would be judged by the actions of the authorities rather than explanations given after the poll.

Aregbesola, a former governor of Osun State and former Minister of the Federal Republic, currently serves as the National Secretary of the ADC.
