Tension Mounts as Thugs Attack NDC Secretariat in Edo After Deadly Enugu Incident

EDO STATE — Tension has reportedly gripped the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) following an attack on the party’s secretariat in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State by suspected thugs.

The incident, reported on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, comes barely a week after an attack on the party’s campaign office in Enugu State that claimed the life of one of its members.

A video circulating online showed damaged property at the Edo secretariat, raising fresh concerns about the safety of political party offices and supporters ahead of future elections.

According to reports, no death had been recorded in the Edo incident as of the time the attack was reported.

Attack Follows Deadly Incident in Enugu

The latest incident comes days after the Enugu State chapter of the NDC confirmed the death of its member, Nworie Christopher, who reportedly sustained fatal gunshot injuries during an attack on October 10, 2026.

Christopher, who hailed from Affa in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State, was allegedly among party supporters attacked by armed men during a gathering at the campaign office of the party’s governorship candidate, Christian Chinyeaka Ohaa, in Enugu GRA.

His death has heightened concerns over the growing atmosphere of political tension and the safety of opposition supporters.

Woman Accuses APC as Video Emerges

In the video showing the vandalised NDC secretariat in Edo State, a woman blamed the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the attack.

Reacting to the incident, she reportedly said: “The last one happened in Enugu, where one person died. Now they have brought it to Edo. APC, your end is here.”

However, the allegation remains an accusation made by the woman in the footage and has not been independently established by the information contained in the report.

Civil Society Groups Raise Alarm

The repeated attacks on political party offices have reportedly drawn concern from civil society organisations and political commentators, who warn that unchecked political violence could undermine public confidence in the electoral process.

Observers have stressed the importance of protecting political parties, their supporters and campaign facilities, regardless of their political affiliations.

The latest attack in Edo, following the deadly incident in Enugu, has renewed questions about the security of political activities and the need for authorities to investigate such incidents and hold those responsible accountable.

As concerns continue to mount, attention will be focused on the response of security agencies and the relevant political parties to the reported attack.
