Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate and Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential hopeful, Peter Obi, has declared that he would immediately stop campaigning for the 2027 election if anyone can prove he took even one percent of donations made to the Labour Party.
Obi made the statement during an interview on Nevon Media hosted by journalist Oseni Rufai while responding to allegations that he and human rights activist Aisha Yesufu diverted funds donated to the Labour Party during the 2023 general elections.
Dismissing the claims as baseless, Obi challenged his accusers to provide evidence, insisting that no Labour Party funds were mismanaged under his watch.
According to him, some individuals have alleged that billions of naira and millions of dollars were siphoned from the party’s accounts, but he questioned the existence of the accounts being referenced and demanded proof.
Obi further disclosed that he is compiling a list of individuals who have accused him of financial misconduct and intends to publicly challenge them to substantiate their claims.
“If anyone can prove that I took one percent of Labour Party donations, I will stop campaigning,” Obi stated.
The former Anambra State governor maintained that the allegations are unfounded and reiterated his commitment to transparency and accountability in public service.
