2027 ELECTIONS: Lamido Fires Warning at Nigerians Over APC, Says Voters Must Learn From Past Mistakes

As political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, former Jigawa State Governor and founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sule Lamido, has sent a strong message to Nigerians, warning them against repeating what he described as the mistake of voting for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in previous elections.

Lamido made the statement during the inauguration of the PDP Campaign Council at the party’s state headquarters in Dutse, Jigawa State, where he urged Nigerians to carefully evaluate the performance of previous PDP administrations against that of the current APC-led government before deciding who deserves their votes in 2027.

According to him, Nigerians must reflect on their past electoral decisions and consider the achievements of previous administrations before making another choice at the polls.

“I believe Nigerians have learnt from their mistakes. Therefore, they must critically examine the achievements of previous administrations under the PDP and compare them with those of the current administration before deciding who should lead them,” Lamido said.

Lamido Accuses APC of Failing Nigerians

The former governor accused the APC-led administration of failing to meet the expectations of Nigerians, insisting that the country and Jigawa State need experienced and competent leaders capable of addressing the challenges confronting citizens.

He expressed concern over the state of healthcare and education, alleging that residents of Jigawa and Nigerians at large were experiencing setbacks in critical sectors.

“Today, Jigawa is facing serious challenges in accessing quality healthcare. Hospitals lack adequate medical services and essential drugs, while the education sector continues to deteriorate,” he said.

Lamido’s remarks come as political parties and their leaders intensify efforts to position themselves ahead of the 2027 elections, with governance, economic conditions and public welfare expected to feature prominently in political debates.

‘PDP Will Survive and Return Stronger’

Defending the PDP’s place in Nigeria’s political history, Lamido described the party as a major force in the country’s democratic journey since the return to civilian rule in 1999.

He argued that the party had demonstrated remarkable resilience despite political challenges and the emergence of several opposition platforms over the years.

“Since 1999, almost all political parties have collapsed, leaving the PDP as the only surviving party to date,” he said.

Reaffirming his confidence in the party’s future, Lamido added: “It has seen yesterday, today and, by the grace of God, it will see tomorrow.”

PDP Promises Peaceful Campaigns Ahead of 2027

Lamido assured party supporters that the PDP was prepared to campaign for its candidates at every level of government, including the presidency, Senate, House of Representatives and State Houses of Assembly.

He also pledged that the party would conduct peaceful campaigns without insults, intimidation or personal attacks against political opponents.

According to him, the party’s central objective is to restore good governance and rebuild public confidence in political leadership.

With the 2027 general elections approaching, Lamido’s comments add to the growing political exchanges between the PDP and APC as both parties seek to win the confidence of Nigerian voters.

The big question, however, is whether Nigerians will heed Lamido’s warning and reconsider their political choices—or give the APC another opportunity in 2027.
