Amatta Town Union disown Central Working Committee

Amata Town Union, the umbrella body of Amatta Autonomous Community, Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State, (home and abroad) has disowned a certain group in the community, going by the name, “Amatta Central Working Committee”.

A press statement endorsed by the President General of the community, Mr Joe Oparaoriaku, on behalf executive and members of Amatta Town Union, berated the said Amatta Central Working Committee for its publication on the Sunday Statesman of January 28, 2024, which purportedly passed vote of no confidence on the traditional ruler and other leaders of the community.

It reminded the group that only the government of Imo State which gave official staff of office to the traditional ruler and also appointed the President General has the right to remove them, cautioning the said committee that its brazen attempt to exercise exclusive powers of government is capable of engendering crises in the community.

The statement described the group as a fictitious contraption of disgruntled elements who are bent on causing disaffection among the people of Amatta, while chiding it for making such publication on a matter already pending in a court of competent jurisdiction.

It further described the allegation of Amatta Central Working Committee against the traditional ruler of the community that he sold the community’s land to the governor as baseless, as Government does not buy land from its citizens, rather it acquires and compensates accordingly.
