A survivor of the Enugu Air aircraft accident at Benin Airport has recounted the terrifying moments passengers faced after the plane allegedly lost control while attempting to land in heavy rainfall.
Nigerian rapper and content creator, Chinedu, popularly known as Triple Pin, said the incident left him shaken and gave him a new appreciation for life.
Sharing his experience in a video posted on Instagram, Triple Pin said poor visibility caused by the downpour made him wonder how the pilot was navigating the aircraft.
According to him, the pilot repeatedly circled in the air while searching for a safe landing before the aircraft suddenly veered off the runway and headed toward nearby bushes.
He also credited the heavy rain for preventing what could have been a far worse tragedy, saying it likely stopped the aircraft from catching fire.
“This is how these big dreams would have gone. Our plane crashed today. I used to see things like this in movies and on social media. I thought it only happened there.
“The whole window was blurry because rain was falling. I was wondering how the pilot was able to continue despite the weather.
“When it was time to land, the pilot kept rotating in the air, looking for where to land. He kept rotating, and that was how he lost control and moved towards the bush.
“All of a sudden, all I heard was noise. Everybody was in panic. The reason our plane didn’t catch fire was because rain was falling. That is how I would have died. That is how these big dreams would have been unfulfilled. I came out with no injury,” he said.
The Enugu Air aircraft veered off the runway while landing at Benin Airport on Thursday. Despite the frightening incident, all passengers and crew members were safely evacuated, with no fatalities reported.
