Wike reacts to Makinde’s 2027 Presidential Bid, Speaks On Fubara’s APC Membership

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has described the 2027 presidential ambition of Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, as “dead on arrival.”
Wike made the remark on Thursday while addressing journalists during an inspection of ongoing road projects in Gomani-Yangoje, Kwali Area Council of Abuja.
Makinde had recently declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidency under the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Ibadan, Oyo State. His declaration followed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between his faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the APM.
Reacting to the development, Wike alleged that Makinde’s alliance with the APM was solely aimed at pursuing his presidential ambition, insisting that the move would not succeed.
“What you have is Seyi Makinde joining APM to actualise his presidential ambition, which is already dead on arrival,” Wike said.
He added, “It’s unfortunate. We know that has been his game plan and we would say he cannot fly the flag of PDP.”
The FCT minister also reacted to questions surrounding the political status of Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and his continued membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Responding to concerns over Fubara’s position in the party, Wike dismissed speculations of any crisis, stressing that the governor had already made his stance clear.
“Sorry for what? Why are you saying problem when nobody has told you he has a problem?” Wike asked.
“The man has told you he still remains APC. So what is the problem now?” he added.
Wike maintained that any issue relating to Fubara’s standing within the APC remained an internal affair of the ruling party.
“Ask me about PDP, and I will answer you. Because how will you ask me whatever happens? Assuming he has a problem, it’s their internal affairs,” he stated.
Governor Fubara had on Wednesday reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC while inspecting the reconstructed Rivers State Psychiatric Hospital, now remodelled into a general hospital, in Rumuigbo, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.
The governor also dismissed social media reports claiming he had dumped the ruling party, insisting that he remains committed to the APC and its interests.
