Rivers: Fubara Agreed Not To Seek Second Term – Wike

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike has said there was an agreement preventing Sim Fubara from contesting for a second term in office.
Wike stated this on Monday while inspecting ongoing projects in the FCT, noting that he was not surprised by Fubara’s withdrawal from the Rivers governorship race.
According to the minister, the Rivers governor should not have obtained the governorship nomination form of the All Progressives Congress because stakeholders had earlier agreed that impeachment proceedings against him would be halted on the condition that he would not pursue a second tenure.
“I’m not surprised that the governor withdrew. In the first place, he ought not to have collected the form because the agreement was that impeachment should be dropped while he would not talk about second tenure,” Wike said.
The former Rivers governor further accused Fubara of failing to honour the political understanding by initially purchasing the nomination form despite the agreement reached.
Wike also disclosed that Bola Ahmed Tinubu had intervened on several occasions to restore peace in Rivers State and persuaded lawmakers not to proceed with moves to impeach the governor.
