Former Director of Defence Information, Major General Rabe Abubakar (rtd), and his wife have reportedly been abducted by suspected bandits in Katsina State.
The shocking incident occurred on Saturday along the Matazu axis while the retired army general and his wife were travelling to Katsina. Armed attackers reportedly ambushed their vehicle and whisked the couple away to an unknown destination.
Sources disclosed that the vehicle’s driver sustained gunshot wounds during the attack but managed to escape. The abandoned red Peugeot 504 belonging to the retired officer was later recovered and taken to the Matazu Divisional Police Headquarters.
An informal security alert circulating among military circles reportedly confirmed the abduction and called for urgent intervention by security agencies.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the police nor military authorities had issued an official statement, leaving many questions unanswered about the fate of the former defence spokesperson and his wife.
