GOMEP President Sounds Alarm Over Insecurity, Urges Tinubu to Build Lasting Security Framework

ABUJA – The National President of the Guild of Online Media Editors and Publishers of Nigeria (GOMEP), Comrade Akpovoke Otiti, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently establish a sustainable and effective security architecture to address the growing insecurity across the country.
Expressing deep concern over the persistent incidents of kidnappings, killings, and other violent crimes, Otiti said Nigeria’s security challenges require a comprehensive and long-term strategy capable of guaranteeing the safety of citizens and restoring public confidence.
Speaking on the deteriorating security situation, the GOMEP President noted that Nigerians are increasingly living in fear as criminal elements continue to unleash terror in various parts of the country.
He urged the Federal Government to strengthen intelligence gathering, enhance collaboration among security agencies, and leverage modern technology to combat crime and improve national security.
According to him, “Nigeria urgently needs a sustainable security architecture that goes beyond responding to immediate threats and focuses on preventing future security breaches. The protection of lives and property remains the foremost responsibility of any government.”
Otiti also raised alarm over the recurring abduction of schoolchildren in Oyo State, describing the incidents as disturbing, unacceptable, and a serious threat to the nation’s educational system.
He called on both the Federal Government and the Oyo State Government to take swift and decisive action to end the menace and ensure the safety of pupils and students.
“The safety of our children must never be compromised. Government at all levels must act decisively to protect schools and educational institutions from criminal elements who increasingly see them as soft targets,” he said.
The GOMEP President further urged security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue victims, apprehend those responsible for the attacks, and ensure they are prosecuted in accordance with the law.
Reaffirming GOMEP’s commitment to promoting good governance, national security, and policies that protect the rights and welfare of Nigerians, Otiti called on citizens to remain vigilant and continue supporting lawful efforts aimed at restoring peace, security, and stability across the country.
