Tinubu, Adeleke Meet Behind Closed Doors — What’s Really Being Discussed?

ABUJA — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday held a closed-door meeting with Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, days after Adeleke secured re-election for a second term.

Adeleke arrived at the State House at about 5:20 p.m. and was driven through the forecourt route directly to the President’s Office, where he proceeded into the private meeting with Tinubu.

The meeting has attracted attention because it came shortly after the August 15 Osun governorship election, in which Adeleke defeated his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Adeleke, who contested on the platform of the Accord Party, polled 511,067 votes, while Oyebamiji secured 444,815 votes, giving the incumbent governor a winning margin of 66,252 votes.

The meeting also comes against the backdrop of Adeleke’s recent electoral victory and his formal receipt of the Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The certificate was presented to Adeleke by the Osun Resident Electoral Commissioner, Oluwatoyin Babalola, at the commission’s headquarters in Osogbo. Deputy Governor Prince Kola Adewusi also received his certificate during the ceremony.

Speaking at the presentation, Babalola said the certificates were issued in accordance with the law and reflected the mandate given to the two officials by voters in the state.

She commended security agencies, the media, traditional institutions, non-governmental organisations and other stakeholders for their roles in the election.

The REC also disclosed that voter turnout stood at 43.2 per cent, while urging Adeleke to be magnanimous in victory.

Meanwhile, the appearance of APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Bashiru, alongside other party leaders near the corridor has added another layer of interest to the President’s meeting with the Osun governor.

The details of what transpired behind the closed doors were not immediately disclosed.

With Adeleke fresh from a decisive electoral victory and Tinubu facing an increasingly active political landscape ahead of 2027, the meeting is already generating considerable attention in political circles.
