The Guild of Online Media Editors and Publishers of Nigeria (GOMEP-NG) has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his commitment to long-term reforms aimed at achieving sustainable national development.
In a joint statement signed by the National President, Comr. Akpovoke Otiti, and the National Secretary, Prince Clinton Uba, the Guild urged Nigerians to remain patient and support the administration’s reform agenda despite the current economic difficulties.
GOMEP-NG said some Nigerians may interpret the government’s tough economic measures as a sign of weakness, but argued that difficult decisions are often necessary to achieve lasting transformation.
“Many Nigerians may mistake President Tinubu’s approach for weakness, but we see it differently. His willingness to take difficult decisions demonstrates a long-term vision for rebuilding the nation’s economy and strengthening governance,” Otiti said.
The Guild described Tinubu as a leader willing to enforce higher standards in governance and public service, stressing that meaningful reforms may require short-term sacrifices before their benefits become evident.
According to GOMEP-NG, Nigerians should distinguish between immediate hardship and long-term national interest, while acknowledging the economic pressure that some of the reforms have placed on citizens.
The Guild, however, urged the Federal Government to intensify social intervention programmes and ensure that the benefits of economic reforms eventually translate into improved living standards for ordinary Nigerians.
It also called for greater transparency, accountability and effective communication from government agencies so that citizens can better understand the objectives, timelines and expected outcomes of ongoing reforms.
“Once these policies stabilise and begin to deliver the desired results, Nigerians who are currently complaining may be among those praising the President for having the courage to take difficult decisions,” Otiti added.
GOMEP-NG reaffirmed its commitment to constructive engagement with the Federal Government and other stakeholders in promoting good governance, responsible leadership and sustainable national development.
