Primate Elijah Ayodele, the leader of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, has made fresh predictions about the 2027 presidential election, claiming that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) would not be able to secure victory for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu if the opposition adopts the right strategy.
According to a report by the Nigerian Tribune published on August 3, 2026, Ayodele said the outcome of the election would depend largely on how well opposition parties organize and unite ahead of the polls.
In a statement issued on Monday through his media aide, Osho Oluwatosin, the cleric alleged that President Tinubu was surrounded by individuals who would ultimately disappoint him politically.
Ayodele further claimed that some state governors the president was relying on would fail to deliver the expected support during the election, adding that several of them might not even secure victories in their own states.
The cleric also alleged that some of Tinubu’s close associates were misleading him, claiming the president had been “blindfolded spiritually.” He further argued that Tinubu no longer had a firm grip on his administration and would continue to face political challenges unless he surrounded himself with trustworthy allies.
Ayodele also claimed that any reliance on the United States or France for electoral success would prove ineffective, insisting that the 2027 election would be decided by spiritual factors rather than political alliances.
According to him, many Nigerians no longer want Tinubu to remain in office, but he alleged that the president was unwilling to heed advice.
“The northerners will show themselves at the 11th hour. Even INEC cannot give him victory,” Ayodele was quoted as saying.
He maintained that Tinubu’s chances of winning a second term would largely depend on the performance of the opposition, arguing that the president could only return to office if opposition parties failed to unite and present a formidable challenge.
Ayodele also claimed that the North remained dissatisfied and would play a decisive role at a critical stage of the election. He concluded by alleging that the current political atmosphere and timing did not favor President Tinubu’s re-election bid.
