The Member Representing Njaba State Constituency, Hon. Ozioma Worship Ebonine has called on Governor Hope Uzodimma to mandate the Ministry of Works to mobilize contractors and engage them at Ukwu Orji-Ezioha-Mbaitoli-Amazano-Afor Umuaka road by Onitsha/Owerri Road for reconstruction.
The motion which was okayed by the Assembly members was presented before the House on Tuesday by the Njaba Lawmaker.
It was seconded by the Chief Whip of the House, Rt. Hon. Chigozie Nwaneri, and co-sponsored by six other legislators.
Presenting the motion, the Njaba representative pointed out that the dilapidated state of the Ukwu Orji-Ezioha-Mbaitoli-Amazano-Afor Umuaka road has become a nightmare for the traders, and the people of the community.
He cited that containers carrying wares for sale at the Afor Umuaka Market, has fallen countless times on those spots, and their goods carted away by hoodlums.
He continued that the challenge has posed as a serious security risk to the people engaging in one business or the other at the market and its environs because hoodlums are taking advantage of the bad state of the road to harass people.
The dilapidated state of the road, and activities of hoodlums, he said has stalled the economic growth of the area, as businesses there are no longer thriving.
This, Ebonine lamented has posed as a serious threat to the progress of the area as the road in question is a link road between the great Afor Umuaka market, the entire Njaba State Constituency and other neighbouring Local Government Areas in the State like Mbaitoli, Isu, Nkwerre, Nwangele, among others.
He further asserted, “Seeing that road construction is very pertinent to the people of every area as it attracts lots of progress to a community, I have no doubt that our dear performing Governor who has been doing exceedingly well in road infrastructure and combating insecurity, will direct the relevant authorities to urgently wade into fixing of the aforementioned road as the raining season is over.
“When this road is taken care of, it will make my people feel a sense of belonging that their votes to support the second tenure of His Excellency, the Amiable Governor of the state, was not in vain in anyway, ‘ Ebonine averred’.
Giving the opportunity to speak in favour of the motion was the Chief Whip of the House, Rt. Hon. Chigozie Nwaneri, members representing Orsu; Rt. Hon. Francis Agabige, Onuimo; Hon. James Esile, Isu; Hon. Kingsley Ozurumba, and Mbaitoli; Hon. Innocent Ikpamezie.
They pointed out that the motion was timely as the rainy season has ended.
They further reiterated how the said road connects diverse roads in the state, and urged for the relevant ministry to begin immediate plans of reconstructing the road.
As there was no one against the motion, the Speaker, Rt Hon Chike Olemgbe put it to vote, and the Ayes had it.
