The Imo House of Assembly has passed into Law a Bill for a Law to provide for the licensing of Auctioneers and for other related matters.
This took place on Thursday after the joint Committees on Finance and Works properly scrutinized the bill and submitted their report on it.
It also went through the Committee of the Whole House, was read the third time and then passed.
After votes in favour of the passage of the bill into law were made, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Chike Olemgbe directed the Clerk to transmit a clean copy of the bill to the Governor’s office for final assent.
The bill was sponsored by the member representing Nkwerre state constituency, Hon. Chisom Ojukwu
Addressing journalists after the session, Ojukwu who said he was elated over the passage of the bill noted that what they have succeeded in doing through the passage of the bill is that they have legally created another business for Imo people, as the state can now have certified auctioneers.
He continued, “It will engineer business; sales, transactions in Imo, in Real Estate, among others, both on tangible and intangible items, as any item can now be auctioned.
“Government properties; both movable and immovable assets, lots of things that are dilapidated both vehicles can now be properly auctioned under a Law.
“Its benefits are that it is a fast procedure for sales, it makes sales easier, and with the passage of the bill, Imo people can now engage in the auctioning business.
“Also the pertinence of making it a law is that we want everything to be accounted for; for there to be proper procedures followed. We want people to be licensed to do the job so there will not be cases, as we have in many Courts today.
“The Bill which has now become Law has now streamlined auctioneering processes so such issues will not come up again.
“Apart from ensuring that a new source of legal employment is created, a new sales pattern would be created for the quick disposal of assets, ‘Ojukwu explained
The lawmaker added that the state’s economy would benefit greatly from the Law and from establishment of auction houses, following the governor’s assent.
