A former Ondo State First Lady and Labour Party candidate for the 2027 House of Representatives in Owerri Federal Constituency, Dr. Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, has called for stronger collaboration among elected officials to fast-track development across Nigeria.

Speaking at a press conference in Owerri on Wednesday, Anyanwu-Akeredolu said the absence of synergy among lawmakers and other office holders is a major reason many communities remain underdeveloped.

“Lack of synergy among elected representatives was responsible for stunted development of most communities in the country.

“Collaborative efforts will lead to the realization of more democratic benefits,” she said.

The LP standard bearer, who holds the traditional title “Ada Owere I,” pledged to work with all elected officials irrespective of party lines if voted into office.

She promised “visible, accountable, and responsive representation” and to attract federal projects to Owerri Federal Constituency.

Speaking on infrastructure and health gaps, Dr. Anyanwu-Akeredolu decried the poor state of infrastructure in rural areas, stressing that basic healthcare should no longer be a luxury.

“Essential services such as healthcare centres should already be established in every community within my constituency,” she said.

She advocated for the construction of standard primary healthcare centres and the deployment of telemedicine to reach underserved populations.

“We cannot keep watching our people travel long distances for basic care when technology can bridge that gap,” she added.

The former First Lady also lamented the condition of community markets. “It is regrettable that ancestral markets in many communities remain in their primitive states. As time progresses, the quality of life in the country should improve, not decline,” she noted.

On her agenda, Dr. Anyanwu-Akeredolu presented a 10-point manifesto tailored to Owerri Federal Constituency. She said she would conduct “windshield surveys” across the wards to identify priority projects, noting that “the needs of each community are distinct.”

Her manifesto focuses on
youth empowerment and job creation; Education and human capital development;
women empowerment and gender inclusion; healthcare and public health; infrastructure and community development; agriculture, food security, and sustainable development; social protection and support for vulnerable groups; environmental sustainability and healthy communities; security and community development, and effective representation with legislative impact.

She insisted that good governance is built on partnership. “No single legislator can do it alone. We need synergy between federal, state, and local representatives to move our people forward,” she said.

She urged constituents to prioritize competence and a track record of service in the 2027 polls, adding that her focus will be on measurable impact rather than promises.
