Delta central – A storm of outrage has swept across sections of the Urhobo nation in Delta State, as aggrieved stakeholders launched a blistering attack on renewed political moves by Ughelli South to contest the House of Representatives seat, describing the ambition as “unchristian and demonic.”
The group, speaking in unusually strong terms, insisted that it is unequivocally the turn of Udu to produce the next representative, warning that any attempt to override this arrangement would amount to a grave injustice against other Urhobo blocs.
They further argued that the current political reality already tilts heavily in favour of the Western Urhobo axis, stressing that it is unacceptable for the same bloc to hold the governorship and a senatorial seat while still pushing to dominate the House of Representatives position.
According to the stakeholders, such a concentration of power has effectively left Eastern Urhobo with nothing, deepening feelings of exclusion and marginalisation among communities in that axis.
In a sweeping condemnation of the political climate, they declared that “Urhobos are too fearful, not courageous enough, and have been compromised,” lamenting what they described as a culture of silence in the face of injustice.
They also took aim at Urhobo leaders, accusing them of being “too fearful and docile,” and failing to speak out against what they see as a blatant disregard for fairness and equity within the system.
Warning of growing discontent, the stakeholders called for urgent redress, insisting that justice must prevail and that the Reps seat be ceded to Udu in line with principles of balance, fairness, and unity within the Urhobo nation.
