ABUJA — The 2027 presidential race has entered a new phase as the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has officially announced the commencement of his campaign.
Obi made the announcement during a press briefing on Friday, August 21, 2026, signalling the beginning of the NDC’s nationwide push ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The former Anambra State Governor said the campaign would be built around the issues confronting Nigerians, rather than ethnic or religious considerations.
According to Obi, the NDC intends to focus its message on the major challenges affecting citizens and present its proposed solutions to the electorate.
The declaration comes as political activities ahead of the 2027 presidential election continue to gather momentum, with opposition parties and political figures intensifying their strategies.
Obi is expected to campaign alongside his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, as the NDC seeks to position its ticket as a major alternative in the 2027 presidential contest.
More details are expected to emerge as the NDC campaign unfolds.
