Pressure Mounts on Oborevwori as Fresh Demand Targets Top Appointees Over Alleged APC Meeting Violence

By Our Correspondent

Fresh pressure is mounting on the Delta State Government following calls for the immediate suspension of political appointees allegedly linked to violence that disrupted the Delta Central All Progressives Congress (APC) meeting held on Saturday at the PTI Conference Centre.

The National President of the Guild of Online Media Editors and Publishers of Nigeria (GOMEP-NG), Comrade Akpovoke, urged Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration to publicly condemn the incident and take swift disciplinary action against any government official found to have participated in or sponsored the alleged attacks.

In a statement issued in Abuja, Akpovoke said commissioners, Senior Special Assistants (SSAs), and other public office holders are expected to uphold the integrity of government and should never be associated with actions capable of damaging Delta State’s reputation.

“It is unacceptable for those entrusted with public office to be linked with violence at political gatherings. Such actions bring the state into disrepute and undermine public confidence in governance,” he stated.

He warned that the state’s campaign to attract investors through investment summits could suffer a major setback if allegations of political violence involving government appointees are left unresolved.

“You cannot be promoting Delta State as a safe destination for investment while political appointees are allegedly involved in violent conduct at political meetings. Such developments send the wrong signal to both residents and prospective investors,” Akpovoke added.

The GOMEP-NG President also expressed concern over what he described as the growing perception of cult-related violence and political thuggery in the state, insisting that the government must demonstrate zero tolerance for misconduct, regardless of the status of those implicated.

He called on Governor Oborevwori to order a thorough investigation into the allegations and suspend any political appointee found to have played a role in the incident pending the outcome of the probe.

According to him, such decisive action would reinforce the government’s commitment to the rule of law, accountability, and peaceful political engagement.

GOMEP-NG further urged political stakeholders across party lines to embrace issue-based politics and reject violence, intimidation, and any conduct capable of threatening the peace and stability of Delta State.
