The Rivers State House of Assembly has reaffirmed its decision to continue the impeachment process against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu.
Addressing journalists on Friday, lawmakers accused the governor of violating provisions of the 1999 Constitution, insisting that the legislature had no option but to invoke its constitutional powers to remove him from office.
The Assembly also alleged that Fubara engaged in acts of blackmail and had lost the credibility required to resolve the political crisis currently rocking the state.
According to the legislators, the impeachment move is strictly constitutional and should not be viewed through ethnic or political lenses.
They maintained that due process would be followed throughout the proceedings, stressing that the action was aimed at protecting democratic governance in Rivers State.
More details are expected as the situation develops.
