The Guild of Online Media Editors and Publishers of Nigeria (GOMEP-NG) has celebrated teachers across Nigeria on the occasion of the 2026 World Teachers’ Day, describing them as the unsung builders of the nation’s future.
In a statement issued to commemorate the day, the Guild acknowledged the dedication, resilience and sacrifices of Nigerian teachers who continue to impart knowledge, nurture talents and shape the character of young Nigerians despite the numerous challenges confronting the education sector.
GOMEP-NG stressed that teachers occupy a strategic position in national development, noting that no society can achieve sustainable growth and progress without a strong, motivated and professionally respected teaching workforce.
The Guild commended teachers who continue to perform their duties with dedication, often working under difficult conditions and with limited resources. It, however, urged governments at all levels to make teachers’ welfare, professional development, working conditions and remuneration a priority.
According to GOMEP-NG, investing in teachers is an investment in Nigeria’s future, as the quality of education and human capital development is directly linked to the quality and wellbeing of the teaching workforce.
The Guild also called on relevant authorities to strengthen policies that support continuous training, digital literacy, career advancement and improved welfare for teachers, particularly as the education sector continues to evolve in response to technological and societal changes.
GOMEP-NG further encouraged teachers to embrace innovation and emerging technologies in teaching and learning while upholding the values of discipline, integrity, professionalism and mentorship.
The Guild congratulated Nigerian teachers on the 2026 World Teachers’ Day celebration and reaffirmed its commitment to using the online media to promote constructive conversations on education, highlight the contributions of teachers and advocate policies capable of strengthening the Nigerian education system.
