2027 Twist: Peter Obi’s Quiet Meeting With Obasanjo Sparks Fresh Political Speculation (PHOTOS)

As political realignments gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general election, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has held a private meeting with former President Olusegun Obasanjo, fueling fresh speculation about the country’s political landscape.

Photos from the meeting, shared on Wednesday by Obi’s campaign photographer, Esther Umoh, showed the former Anambra State governor and Obasanjo in what appeared to be a cordial discussion.

Obi was dressed in a blue traditional outfit, while Obasanjo wore a white native attire complemented by a blue-patterned cap. A Catholic bishop was also seen with the two leaders during parts of the meeting, adding to the intrigue surrounding the visit.

Despite the growing interest, neither Obi nor Obasanjo has issued an official statement explaining the purpose of the meeting, leaving Nigerians to speculate on what may have been discussed behind closed doors.

The meeting comes at a time when questions continue to swirl over Obasanjo’s political alignment ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

In recent weeks, some groups have alleged that the former president may be quietly supporting President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid, despite his history of backing opposition candidates.

The Yoruba Ronu Leadership Forum had claimed Obasanjo was working behind the scenes in support of Tinubu’s second-term ambition.

However, Obasanjo’s former Political Adviser, Akin Osuntokun, dismissed the allegation, insisting that the former president remains actively involved in strengthening the opposition.

According to Osuntokun, Obasanjo played a significant role in facilitating discussions that led to the opposition alliance involving Peter Obi and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, who now serves as Obi’s running mate.

With no official details released about Wednesday’s meeting, the encounter has intensified speculation over Obasanjo’s next political move and its potential impact on the race for the 2027 presidency.
