The traditional ruler of Assa Ngugo community in Ikeduru Local Government Area, Imo State, His Royal Majesty Eze Dr. Vitus Uchenna Kasa, Okwadike Assa II, has called for a renewed focus on agriculture to ensure food security at both national and local levels.

Speaking during the New Yam Festival of Inyishi Ancient Kingdom, following a yam harvest competition, Eze Kasa expressed his satisfaction with the abundant harvests achieved by farmers in the community. He noted that the friendly competition motivates farmers to improve their yield in the coming years and inspires others to embrace farming.

Eze Kasa emphasized the importance of young people returning to agriculture, stating that it not only guarantees food security but also creates employment opportunities, strengthens the economy, and boosts the nation’s GDP.

He warned that any state or country that fails to become self-sufficient in food production is at risk of hunger. “One of the key factors that make a community truly independent is the ability to produce its own food,” he said, urging everyone to prioritize agriculture.

In his speech, Eze Kasa also congratulated His Royal Highness, Eze Andrew Osuji, the traditional ruler of Inyishi Ancient Kingdom, on the successful celebration of the New Yam Festival and prayed for continued success in his leadership.
