Imo Assembly recalls four suspended members … As Majority Leader says “They will receive all their entitlements” 

The Imo State House of Assembly has recalled and lifted the suspension of the four members of the House; Members Representing Oru West, Rt. Hon. Dominic Ezerioha, Okigwe, Rt. Hon. Samuel Ogbunikpa, Ahiazu Mbaise; Rt. Hon. Samuel Otibe, and Ezinihitte; Hon. Henry Agabasonu who were suspended on July 2, 2024.

This, the House resolved to when the House Committee on Ethics and Privileges saddled with the responsibility of looking into the matter presented their report to the Committee of the Whole House.

The 4-man committee Chaired by the Majority Leader of the House, Rt. Hon. Kanayo Onyemaechi with the Chief Whip of the House, Rt. Hon. Chigozie Nwaneri, Ngor Okpala lawmaker; Rt. Hon. Obinna Egu, Oguta representative, Hon. Gilbert Nwosu as members in their report averred:

“The Committee met and deliberated on the subject matter of the four lawmakers suspension which was centered on Unparliamentary conduct and resolved to hear from the concerned members, hence their invitation before the Committee.

“In the course of the discussion, the suspended members showed remorse for their offence and asked for leniency from the Committee.

“Pursuant to our findings made and upon assurances by the suspended members to be of good conduct, the Committee recommends that: Hon. Samuel Otuibe, member representing Ahiazu Mbaise State Constituency, Hon. Dominic Ezerioha, member representing Oru West State Constituency, Hon. Samuel Ogbunikpa, member representing Okigwe State Constituency, and Hon. Henry Agbasonu, member representing Ezinihite Mbaise State Constituency be recalled and their suspension lifted.”

The report of the committee was finally adopted as a working document of the House, when the Speaker put it to vote, after the Nkwerre lawmaker, Hon. Chisom Ojukwu moved for it to be adopted, and was seconded by Deputy Minority Leader, lawmaker, Rt. Hon. Clinton Amadi.

Speaking to news men after the plenary, the Majority Leader who expressed joy that the lawmakers have been recalled, pointed out that they are their brothers, but the House decided to discipline them, so other will not make the same mistake they have made.

He further disclosed that all the past entitlements of the lawmakers will be given to them as the Governor “being a father indeed” has instructed for such, even though the House Rules says otherwise.
