The Imo State House of Assembly has called on the Commissioner for Works to ensure that the contractor in charge of reconstructing the Awo-Omamma-Okwudor road in Njaba Local Government Area to return back to the site, and speed up the process of completing the project before the rainy seasons fully sets in.
This was in view of the motion moved by the Member Representing Njaba State Constituency in the House, Hon. Ozioma Worship Kenneth Ebonine, which was seconded by Nkwerre lawmaker, Hon. Chisom Ojukwu, and co-sponsored by ten (10) other legislators.
Presenting the motion, Ebonine pointed out that the Awo-Omamma-Okwudor road was awarded by Governor Hope Uzodimma, but was at a point abandoned by the contractor who he said claimed that there was insecurity in the LGA.
He averred that the insecurity has been addressed by the State Government, adding that there is tranquility and serenity in the area, and so the contractor should be directed to resume work at the site again.
The lawmaker continued, “the markets within Awo-Omamma, Okwudor, Amucha, Atta, Orlu and environs are all linked up and accessible through this Awo-Omamma-Okwudor link road.
“The poor state of this road is badly affecting the economic life of these markets thereby leading to impoverishment of the people of those areas.
“This road linking Awo-Omamma in Oru East and Okwudor in Njaba is’a pre-colonial road which has strategic significance to the mobility of people from Oru, Isu, ldeato and Orsu nations and serves as pivot for economic fluidity of these areas and Imo State in general.
He further asserted that certain point of the road is about to break up as there is a big gully on the road that need urgent attention, adding that farmers can no longer move their farm produce easily because of the nature of the road, and so the need for the contractor to not just resume work at the site, but to also speed up the process.
Supporting the motion, were members representing Orlu; Hon. Barr Ikenna Ihezuo, Ezinihitte; Hon. Henry Agbasonu, and Isu; Hon. Kingsley Ozurumba.
