Supporters of Peter Obi under the Obidient Movement have announced plans to stage a massive “One Million-Man March” in Benue State following the reported blockade of the former Anambra State governor’s convoy.
The demonstration is scheduled to hold on Saturday, September 12, 2026, in Makurdi, the Benue State capital. Participants are expected to gather at Wurukum Roundabout from 9am.
The planned march was announced in a flyer circulating on social media and shared by Isaac Fayose, younger brother of former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose.
The Benue chapter of the Obidient Movement described the event as a demonstration of solidarity for “A New Nigeria.”
The development comes just days after youths reportedly stopped and attacked Obi’s convoy shortly after his arrival in the state.
Obi had travelled to Benue to visit Yelwata, where he was expected to meet families affected by the deadly June 2025 massacre. However, his convoy was reportedly blocked by youths at Gyado along the Gboko Road, preventing him from reaching his destination.
The incident sparked widespread reactions, with some Obi supporters and opposition figures alleging possible political involvement in the blockade.
However, the Benue State Government has denied any involvement.
Kula Tersoo, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Hyacinth Alia, said the state government was unaware of Obi’s visit and questioned why the security agencies attached to the former governor did not adequately protect him.
Tersoo also dismissed allegations that the youths were sponsored by the state government, insisting that the Alia administration does not patronise thugs.
Meanwhile, Obidient supporter Ndubuisi Nicholas Ifedoro has warned that Saturday’s planned march will demonstrate the political presence of the Obidient and Kwankwasiya movements in Benue.
Addressing Governor Alia in a Facebook post, Ifedoro said the groups were coming to the state to “announce their presence” while insisting that their participation would remain peaceful.
The planned demonstration has now put Benue on the political spotlight, with attention turning to what could unfold in Makurdi on Saturday.
