Sowunmi Slams Wike, Says…

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Segun Sowunmi, has criticised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, describing him as “a mismanaged, excessively irritating and garrulous aide of the government.

Sowunmi stated this on Friday during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, while reacting to Wike’s recent confrontation with a naval officer over a land dispute in Abuja.

The former spokesman of Atiku Abubakar’s presidential campaign faulted the Federal Government for allegedly failing to properly manage Wike’s conduct, insisting that public opinion has shown growing unease over the minister’s behaviour.

According to him, Wike’s actions continue to embarrass the government.

“If you have listening tools—and I expect the government to have—listen to what’s happening on radio, on television, filter the internet and see the opinion of Nigerians,” he said. “What you will find is that the Federal Government of Bola Tinubu has a Wike problem.

“The amount of invective you throw at people increases the tendency for them to first dislike you, and then by extension begin to dislike your principal.”

Sowunmi also referenced the viral skits and reactions that trailed Wike’s clash with the naval officer, noting that such public spectacles were unbecoming of a serving minister.

“You can’t run a government like that,” he said. “You cannot be an irritating, garrulous aide of a government. You are serving the citizens of Nigeria and at the behest of the president. You must control yourself and manage yourself better.”

He further accused Wike of mishandling the Abuja incident and frequently disrespecting senior national figures, adding that his media engagements have heightened public frustration.

“In your ‘I’m bigger than everybody, I’m very strong’ attitude, you put yourself in a situation where a junior ranking officer is forced to hold the line before you,” he said.

“You had a problem in Rivers State; you were backed, and people didn’t like that. You seem to have issues with almost all our revered leaders in the country. You are constantly in the media—screaming, shouting, bellowing and talking anyhow you like.”
