The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has formally expelled the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose; and former National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, alongside several others.
The decision was reached during the party’s national convention, which had delegates from 17 states in attendance. PDP elder statesman, Chief Bode George, moved the motion for the expulsion of 11 members, accusing them of conduct “inconsistent with the party’s collective interest.” The motion was seconded by the Chairman of Bauchi PDP, Hon. Samaila Buga.
Delegates unanimously backed the move, accusing the affected members of actions capable of undermining party unity, including multiple court cases instituted against the organisation.
Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, subsequently presented the motion for adoption and ratification, which also received unanimous approval.
Present at the convention were Governors Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa), Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau), as well as the PDP National Chairman, Umar Damagum.
Other prominent attendees included Senate Minority Leader Abba Moro; former Osun State Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola; former Gombe State Governor Senator Ibrahim Dankwambo; Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Senator Adolphus Wabara; among other party stalwarts.
Politics Nigeria recalls that a faction loyal to Wike had attempted to halt the convention through court action. However, an Oyo State High Court ruling cleared the way for the convention to proceed.
