Tinubu Confirms Killing of Brig.-Gen. Musa Uba by ISWAP Terrorists … Condoles with Military

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has confirmed the killing of Brigadier General Musa Uba, Commander of the 25 Task Force Brigade, who was ambushed by fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).

General Uba was killed on Friday, November 14, after terrorists launched an attack on his convoy along the Damboa–Biu axis. He was leading a team comprising military officers and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) when the ambush occurred.

Sources disclosed that four operatives—two soldiers and two CJTF members—were killed on the spot. General Uba, who initially managed to escape, was reportedly captured by the terrorists and later killed following a failed rescue attempt by the Military’s Air Component.

Although the Nigerian Military is yet to release an official statement, President Tinubu publicly confirmed the incident on Tuesday.

In a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the president condoled with the Armed Forces over the loss of the senior officer and other soldiers.

“President Tinubu sends his condolences to the military over the death of the gallant soldiers and Brigadier General Musa Uba, who paid the ultimate price while on active duty fighting insurgents in Borno State,” the statement read.

The president also addressed the recent abduction of 25 schoolgirls from Government Girls Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State.

Onanuga noted that Tinubu assured the families and Nigerians at large of the government’s firm commitment to securing the release of the abducted students.
