Imo ADC raises ₦230m at first Imo Stakeholders’ Summit in Owerri, expresses readiness to take over leadership

The Imo State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has raised ₦230 million at its maiden Stakeholders’ Summit held in Owerri, signaling a major boost to the party’s preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The well-attended summit was presided over by former Imo State Governor, Chief Achike Udenwa, and drew a broad spectrum of participants, including prominent politicians, business leaders, academics, professionals, and leaders of the Christian clergy. Observers described the turnout as a reflection of the party’s growing acceptance and influence across the state.

This took place on Wednesday, January 6, 2026 at the ADC Party Secretariat in Owerri, the state capital.

Speaking at the event, the State Chairman of the ADC, Professor James Okoroma, said the party has concluded the establishment of functional structures in all 305 wards of Imo State. He noted that the development places the ADC in a strong position to compete effectively in future elections.

According to him, the party is focused on building a solid grassroots base capable of challenging the dominance of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
He added that the funds raised at the summit would be deployed to strengthen ward and local government
structures, enhance mobilisation efforts, and sustain party activities statewide.

Professor Okoroma stressed that adequate funding remains critical to the success of any political organisation, describing the ₦230 million realised at the summit as a clear demonstration of stakeholders’ confidence in the ADC’s leadership and vision for Imo State.

Chairman of the occasion, Chief Achike Udenwa, urged party leaders and members to remain united and disciplined, emphasizing that internal cohesion and strategic planning would be key to electoral success. He expressed optimism that the ADC could emerge victorious in future elections if it sustains its current momentum.

Former Governor of Imo State, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, also addressed the gathering, calling on party members to intensify their commitment toward building a strong and competitive political platform.

He underscored the importance of financial support, noting that effective mobilisation and electioneering require substantial resources.

Ihedioha further appealed to the business community and Imo indigenes living outside the state and in the diaspora to support the party, both financially and morally, to enable it overcome political and organisational challenges.

The successful outing and the amount raised at the summit have been described by party leaders as a turning point for the ADC in Imo State, as it positions itself for increased political engagement and competitiveness ahead of the 2027 elections.
