Rivers Assembly Begins Impeachment Process Against Gov. Fubara

The Rivers State House of Assembly has commenced impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara, further heightening political tensions in the state.

The move was initiated during a plenary session held on Thursday, during which lawmakers cited alleged constitutional and administrative breaches as grounds for the action.

The plenary was convened earlier than scheduled, as the Assembly brought forward its resumption date from January 26 to address pressing political developments in the state.

The impeachment move comes amid an ongoing power struggle between former Governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and Governor Fubara, a rivalry that has continued to fuel uncertainty and anxiety across the oil-rich Niger Delta state.

More details are expected as the situation unfolds.
