“They Sent Me a Love Letter” — Faughter, Cheers as Fubara Shrugs Off Rivers Impeachment Plot

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has brushed aside the impeachment notice issued against him by the Rivers State House of Assembly, mockingly describing it as a “love letter” while insisting his focus remains on governance.

The governor made the remark while addressing supporters in Port Harcourt, moments after lawmakers activated moves to impeach him and his deputy, Ngozi Odu.

Rather than appear rattled by the growing political storm, Fubara sounded relaxed and confident, drawing loud cheers from the crowd as he played down the tension rocking the state.

Earlier, the Rivers State House of Assembly had accused the governor’s administration of gross misconduct, triggering the formal issuance of an impeachment notice and sparking intense political debate across the state.

The situation deepened despite an interim order from the Rivers State High Court restraining the lawmakers from pushing forward with the process, as the Assembly later announced that the Chief Judge had received and acknowledged the notice served on the governor.

Speaking at the grand finale of the 2026 NPA Port Harcourt International Polo Tournament, Fubara dismissed the move as a distraction.

“I thought 2026 would be the finest, but instead they just delivered me a love letter,” he said, to roaring applause.

He stressed that the political drama would not derail his administration, adding that his government remains committed to supporting people and institutions genuinely working for the peace and development of Rivers State.

“But notwithstanding all this, we must carry out our responsibility as government and continue to support everyone who means well for Rivers State,” the governor added.
