Frontline presidential aspirant of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has accused the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Joash Amupitan, of allegedly carrying out the political agenda of President Bola Tinubu.
Obi made the allegation during an interview with News Central TV, excerpts of which were released ahead of the full broadcast.
The former Anambra State governor disclosed that he recently wrote a letter to the INEC chairman, warning him that public office is temporary and urging him to reflect on his actions.
According to Obi, the conduct of elections under the current administration has fallen short of expectations, despite the involvement of highly educated individuals in the electoral process.
“If anybody had told me that we could use Professors to run our elections and it would be worse, I would have said a capital no,” Obi said.
He added, “I wrote to the present INEC Chairman and said, ‘Remember, you will not be here forever.’”
When asked during the interview whether he believed INEC was working in favour of the presidency, Obi answered in the affirmative.
“Yes, completely. Whatever the INEC Chairman is doing today, he is acting the script written by the man who employed him,” he stated.
The remarks come amid growing political tensions and alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
