To move forward, the newly elected Executive Members of Association of Imo Based Journalists (AIBJ) has vowed that it will work cordially, formidably, as well as relate effectively with other relevant stakeholders to strengthen the values, goodness and welfare of members.
This vow was made by the Chairman of AIBJ, Comrade Kelechi Ugo, in his inaugural speech, shortly after the election of the group, held at City Chef Restaurant, Owerri, on Saturday.
Ugo said the new leadership is going to be accountable, prudent, sincere, diligent, steadfast and tolerant as it carries out the mandate of the Association.
He added that the leadership, made up of persons of good conscience, would leave no stone unturned to seek, advocate, as well as protect the rights, welfare and interests of law – abiding members with a view to advancing social comfort, economic prosperity, truthful, fair and balanced journalism.
Affirming that there is no faction in the Association, Ugo extended olive branch to members who he said feel aggrieved, calling on them to join hands to advance the values and aspirations of the group.
The Exco praised the maturity and patriotism richly demonstrated by the Electoral Committee in the conduct of the election which it adjudged as free, fair and peaceful.
The Executive equally thanked members for conducting themselves orderly and mannerly before, during and after the exercise.
Expressing deep respect and gratitude to the Imo State Police Command especially the Commissioner of Police, the Imo Vigilance Organization, Ugo lauded their efficiency in providing adequate security while the election lasted.
Earlier, the Electoral Committee Members: Val Nduka, Williams Ordunze, Chizoba Achuzie, who swore in the new Exco, noted that the election was conducted through Simple Majority System.
They hinted that accredited voters who exercised their franchise were substantive members of AIBJ.
Inaugurating the new exco, a reputable journalist and Elder Statesman, Chief Evarestus Ezihe, advised them to continue to be law- abiding, keep the ethics of journalism profession as they discharge their assigned duty in order to progress and achieve greatness.
Just as some dignified Pen Pushers, Leonard Nwanekwu, Pastor Nick Chibunna, Ambrose Njoku, Dr. Ikechukwu Ndumele, Okey Alozie, Amb. Anselm Anokute and Chioma Nkama urged the leadership to keep faith in defending the rights and interests of the Association.
However, the new Executive Members include: Comr. Kelechi Ugo (Chairman), Princess Stevenie Ojijiagwo (VIce Chairman), Ikenna Orioha (Secretary), Nkechi Ojukwu (Treasurer), Onyinyechi Jennifer Nwankwo (Financial Secretary), Grace Ofurum (Welfare Officer) and Onyebuchi Onwuchekwa (Provost).
