ABUJA – A Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced three men linked to the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State to life imprisonment after they admitted to offences connected with terrorism.
Justice Salim Ibrahim convicted and sentenced Abdulrazak Umar (also known as Abu Khalifa/Abu Khalid), Yunusa Musa (alias Yunusa Bin Musa), and Shamsu Adamu Sani (alias Abu Itisar) following their guilty pleas to charges brought against them by the Department of State Services (DSS).
The defendants, who were arraigned on a 10-count charge, pleaded guilty to Counts 4 and 6, among other offences. The court found them guilty of being members of a proscribed terrorist group and concealing information about the activities of bandits responsible for the Orire school kidnapping.
Based on their admissions, Justice Ibrahim sentenced all three to life imprisonment.
The Orire school abduction, which sparked nationwide concern over insecurity in schools, involved the kidnapping of pupils and teachers in Oyo State.
