ABUJA – The National President of the Guild of Online Media Editors and Publishers of Nigeria (GOMEP-NG), Comrade Akpovoke Otiti, has called on politicians across the country to embrace selfless leadership, reminding them that public office is a platform for service, not personal gain.
Otiti, in a statement on Thursday, urged political office holders to prioritise the welfare of the people and leave behind a legacy of compassion, justice and meaningful development.
“I am not your enemy. My appeal to every politician is simple: use the office entrusted to you to positively impact humanity, rather than diminish the lives of the people you serve,” he said.
According to him, leadership should be driven by service, compassion and accountability, stressing that political positions are temporary while the consequences of leaders’ actions remain with the people long after they leave office.
“The positions you occupy today will not last forever, but the people you serve will remain. You may need their support when circumstances change,” Otiti stated.
He also cautioned politicians against looking down on citizens, noting that life’s circumstances can change unexpectedly.
“Being at the top today does not mean those you meet at the bottom will never rise tomorrow. Treat everyone with dignity, fairness and respect, because life has a way of changing roles,” he added.
Otiti urged leaders at all levels to ensure that their time in office is remembered for promoting humanity, justice and policies that improve the lives of Nigerians.
“Let your leadership be remembered for humanity, justice and meaningful impact. History remembers leaders who served with integrity and compassion,” he said.
