OWERRI — A fresh push to strengthen security around the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) has emerged following a high-level meeting between the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ikechukwu Nosike Simplicius Dozie, and the Imo State Commissioner of Police, CP Audu Garba Bosso.
Prof. Dozie, who led members of the University Management on a courtesy visit to the Commissioner at his office in Owerri, used the occasion to formally introduce himself and open discussions on stronger security collaboration between FUTO and the Nigeria Police Force.
The meeting focused largely on the safety and security of students, staff and other members of the university community, with the Vice-Chancellor stressing the need for closer cooperation between the institution and the police.
The engagement is expected to further strengthen existing security arrangements and enhance the university’s ability to provide a safe environment for academic and other activities.
Accompanying the Vice-Chancellor were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Remy Uche; Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. C. C. Ogueke; University Librarian, Dr. Mrs. Justina Ekere; and representatives of the University Bursar, Mrs. Ebere Nwadike, represented by Mr. Okechukwu Oji.
Also part of the delegation were the Chief Security Officer (CSO) and other aides of the Vice-Chancellor.
The big question now is: what new security measures could emerge from the FUTO–Police engagement?
