Ada Owere Advocates Free Education, Skills Development for Owerri Children, Calls for Increased Investment in Education

A prospective representative for Owerri Federal Constituency, popularly known as Ada Owere, has called for increased investment in education, human capital development and skills acquisition, insisting that every child deserves access to quality education regardless of their family’s financial circumstances.

In a statement highlighting her vision for the future of Owerri Federal Constituency, Ada Owere stressed that education must serve as a pathway to social mobility rather than a privilege reserved for children from wealthy families.

She advocated free education from primary through secondary school, supported by improved school infrastructure, well-equipped laboratories, functional libraries, digital learning facilities and adequately trained teachers.

According to her, children across Owerri Municipal, Owerri North and Owerri West deserve equal opportunities to acquire quality education and develop the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in life.

Beyond Classroom Education

Ada Owere also emphasised the importance of equipping young people with technical, vocational, digital and entrepreneurial skills to prepare them for employment, innovation and wealth creation.

She noted that human capital development must go beyond conventional classroom learning to include practical skills that enable young people to become productive, self-reliant and economically empowered.

She maintained that investing in education and skills development would not only improve individual livelihoods but also strengthen families, stimulate economic growth and contribute to the overall development of Imo State.

Calls for Increased Education Funding

Addressing the issue of funding, Ada Owere referenced UNESCO’s recommended benchmarks of allocating 15 to 20 per cent of total public expenditure to education, or between four and six per cent of gross domestic product (GDP).

She expressed concern that Nigeria’s reported 2026 federal and Imo State budget proposals fall below the 15 to 20 per cent public-expenditure benchmark, calling for greater prioritisation of education in government spending.

According to her, improved funding can be achieved through prudent financial management, the elimination of wasteful expenditure, the reduction of unnecessary spending and stronger accountability in the use of public resources.

She argued that prioritising education would enable governments to improve learning environments, provide essential teaching materials, support teachers and expand access to educational opportunities.

Promises Legislative Advocacy for Education

Outlining her commitment to the constituency, Ada Owere said that, as a prospective representative in the House of Representatives, she would advocate increased education funding, stronger legislative oversight and broader access to educational opportunities for residents of Owerri Federal Constituency.

She maintained that a deliberate investment in human capital would create lasting benefits for individuals, families and the wider society.

“When we educate a child in Owerri, we strengthen a family. When we equip our young people with skills, we strengthen our economy. And when we invest in human capital, we build a stronger constituency and a better Imo State,” she stated.

She called on stakeholders, community leaders, parents and policymakers to support efforts aimed at improving educational opportunities and ensuring that no child is left behind.

Reaffirming her vision for the constituency, Ada Owere declared that building a prosperous Owerri requires a collective commitment to education, skills acquisition and the empowerment of the next generation.

Her message concluded with a call to action: “Let us build an Owerri where no child is left behind!”

Under the slogan, “Educated People. Skilled People. Empowered People. A Better Owerri!”, Ada Owere reiterated her commitment to promoting human capital development across Owerri Municipal, Owerri North and Owerri West.

She described the vision as one that seeks a better future for all residents of Owerri Federal Constituency, irrespective of their social or economic background.
