An Anglican cleric, Venerable Edwin Achi, who was abducted alongside his wife, Sarah Achi, and daughter, in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, on october 28, 2025, has died in captivity.

This was announced by the Anglican Diocese of Kaduna in a statement on Wednesday, describing it as “a painful loss to the entire fiocese, the clergy, the church family, and all who were blessed by his faithful ministry, humble spirit, and unwavering devotion to the service of God.”

The statement also revealed that his wife and daughter remain in captivity.

“We continue to pray for the release of his wife and daughter who are still in the hands of kidnappers,” it added.

In honour of the late priest, the diocese announced the cancellation of its programme, Stand Up for Jesus 2025 event.

“On this note, the Standup for Jesus 2025 is hereby cancelled in honour of the late Venerable Edwin Achi,” the statement said.

It would be recalled that the couple were kidnapped from their home in the Nissi community, near the Kaduna Refinery, on October 28, 2025.

Their abduction was first reported the following day, after bandits released photographs of the pair as proof of life and demanded a ransom of N600 million.

The images also showed other captives, some reportedly chained and visibly malnourished.
