APC Primaries: List Of Governors Who Secured Tickets As Crises Rock Oyo, Kwara, Bauchi

APC Governors, Consensus Candidates Emerge in 2027 Primaries Amid Protests in Some States
The All Progressives Congress on Thursday conducted primary elections for aspirants seeking to contest on the party’s platform ahead of the 2027 general elections.
National Beam reports that several first-term governors secured return tickets to seek re-election, while some outgoing governors successfully installed their preferred successors through consensus arrangements in various states.
Governors who emerged unopposed as the party’s governorship candidates include Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), Umaru Bago (Niger), Dikko Radda (Katsina), Nasir Idris (Kebbi), Ahmad Aliyu (Sokoto), Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), Uba Sani (Kaduna), Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom), and Umar Namadi (Jigawa).
Also emerging as consensus candidates were Lagos Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat; Senator Olamilekan Adeola in Ogun State; Kingsley Chinda in Rivers State; and Mustapha Gubio in Borno State.
In Rivers State, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, alongside Tonye Cole and Dakorinama George-Kelly, withdrew from the governorship race, leaving Chinda as the sole aspirant.
However, the primaries were marred by controversies and disruptions in Oyo, Kwara, Bauchi, and Taraba states.
The APC national headquarters reportedly halted the Kwara governorship primary midway on Thursday and rescheduled the exercise for Friday.
In Taraba State, Governor Agbu Kefas faced stiff opposition from former Minister of Transportation, Mu’azu Sambo, who demanded a transparent and credible process.
Similarly, in Oyo State, former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, rejected the process, alleging intimidation, manipulation, and falsification of results in parts of the state.
Party members in Bauchi State also protested alleged attempts to impose a governorship candidate, insisting on a transparent and competitive exercise.
Following the controversies, the APC leadership postponed the Bauchi governorship primary to Friday. The party also approved the rescheduling of the State House of Assembly primaries for Maradun I and Maradun II constituencies in Zamfara State to Sunday, May 24, 2026.
The developments were confirmed in a statement issued on Thursday by the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka.
