Nigerian Army troops have successfully rescued Mrs. Abubakar, the wife of late retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, following a tense encounter with armed bandits in Katsina State.
The rescue operation, carried out by troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA under the ongoing Operation CLEAN SWEEP III, took place in Matazu Local Government Area after intelligence reports led security forces to the kidnappers’ hideout.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama disclosed the development on Monday via his official X account, revealing that troops launched coordinated offensives across Matazu and neighboring communities following the woman’s abduction.
According to security sources, soldiers tracked the bandits to Tunga village, where a fierce confrontation ensued. Faced with intense military pressure, the criminals reportedly fled the scene.
However, before escaping, the bandits allegedly shot Mrs. Abubakar.
“The bandits shot her and fled when troops made contact at Tunga village. We have rescued Mrs. Abubakar. She is bleeding. First aid has been administered, and she is being evacuated for urgent medical treatment,” a military source said.
The rescue marks a significant breakthrough in ongoing efforts by security forces to combat kidnapping and banditry in the North-West region.
