Nearly two months after bandits invaded schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State and whisked away pupils and teachers, the victims have finally regained their freedom.
The development was announced on Friday by the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, in a post on X.
“Finally, the kidnapped pupils and teachers in Orire, Oyo, have been freed by their abductors,” Onanuga wrote.
In an emotional video recorded after their release, the Principal of Community Grammar School, Ahoro-Esiele, Mrs. Alamu Folawe, expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu and security personnel for their efforts in securing their freedom.
“Hello sir, our father, we’re grateful. The President sir, we’re grateful. We understand your commitment to our safety and we appreciate all you did for us. We could see it in your eyes. Thank you very much,” she said.
She also commended security operatives for their commitment throughout the ordeal.
“Every security operative tried so much, and that’s why we are still alive today. We’re very grateful,” Folawe added.
The release brings relief to families and residents who had endured weeks of anxiety following the abduction of the pupils and teachers from Ahoro-Esiele and Yawota schools. Further details surrounding their freedom are still being awaited.
