A political economist/scientist as well as a public policy expert, entrepreneur and philanthropist per excellence and Chief Executive of The Mazi Organisation (TMO) on Tuesday announced his intention to run for both the Imo East District and Imo State gubernatorial elections in the state.

Amadi who is running on the platform of the Action Peoples Congress (APP) hinges his aspirations on the opportunity provided by the off-cycle governorship election which comes up sometime in November 2027, more than nine months after the Senate election earlier in January 2027.

Dr. Amadi who was represented at the press conference in the state capital by his organisation leadership led by his director general, Sir Henry Onwukwe (Apiti Uzo Ubi), explained that his decision was based on broad based consultations and rooted in clarity of purpose of the situation on the ground.

Onwukwe said, “After careful deliberation, broad consultation, and strategic evaluation of the political terrain, we wish to formerly inform Ndi Imo that Dr. Amadi has taken a deliberate and well-considered decision to contest both the Owerri Zone Senate seat in the January 2027 general elections and the Imo State governorship election later in November 2027 under the Action Peoples Party.

“This is not a decision borne out of uncertainty, rather, it is one rooted in clarity of purpose, political realism, and a deep commitment to building a durable and winning movement.

“The structure of Imo’s electoral calendar presents both a challenge across two political phases. Our decision reflects an understanding of this reality.”

The senatorial cum governorship aspirant expressed the optimism that the move would “deepen grassroots mobilization across all the local government areas, ensuring that our message reaches every ward before the governorship election; provide immediate and visible leadership to our supporters and candidates vying for other elective positions; strengthen party cohesion and discipline; establish a strong institutional and political foothold at the federal level, which enhances our capacity to advocate for Imo people and influence national policy; build a broad coalition of stakeholders, aligning interest early and consolidating support ahead of the governorship race,” assuring “This is not fragmentation; it is consolidation. It is not confusion; it is coordination,” the aspirant stated.

Amadi cited a good number of states across the federation in which a similar political permutation had taken place and heaven did not fall!

“Let it be clearly stated: this is not an unprecedented strategy in Nigerian politics. Across several states, including Edo and Bayelsa, political leaders have successfully navigated similar pathways, leveraging senatorial contests as a platform for broader executive ambition, adding “such an approach reflects political maturity. It recognizes that governance is not episodic; it is continuous. Leadership must be built, tested, and expanded over time and not assumed overnight,” Amadi added.

He described the Owerri Senate seat as a ‘strategic political anchor’ which historically and structurally confers on whoever clinches the seat the passage to the governorshlp seat with significant momentum, visibility, and legitimacy.

Dr. Amadi threw light on the strategic approach to the party’s political engagement in the state, emphasizing the importance of using the senatorial platform as a means to gain recognition, credibility, and influence.

He urged the party supporters that ignoring the pathway would be a mistake, as it plays a crucial role in the state’s power dynamics, maintaining that they have chosen it to embrace the route with confidence and strategy.

He called on them to understand the importance of clarity and determination in their political ambitions which is to restore effective governance, dignity, and progress to the state.

Amadi emphasized that his dual approach—starting with representation in the Senate and aiming for leadership at Douglas House in Owerri—is a continuous journey towards transformational leadership, adding that their movement should be disciplined, forward-thinking, and service-oriented, with each step being deliberate and purposeful.

Sir Onwukwe reminded the people of Imo State and Nigeria the encompassing philanthropic gestures of their principal which have touched the lives of the sick, market women, students, the down-trodden, the church, among many others over which Dr. Amadi had already expended huge sums of money as a taste of his leadership style in Imo State.
