Comrade (Engr.) Ibe Great Uchenna, has re-emerged as the Chairman of Trade Union Congress (TUC), Imo State Council.
This took place on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, during the 1st Quadrennial Delegates’ Conference of the Congress at Immaculate Royal International Hotel, Owerri, in Imo State.
He is to man the affairs of the Union for the next four years.
Other new members of the State Administrative Council (SAC) are: Ngozi Enuka-Ejinefu (Vice Chairman), Oddoh Solomon C. (Secretary), Ubong Ekanem (Asst. Secretary), Stanley Izuchukwu E. (Treasurer), Uche Okafor (Auditor), Njemanze Ikechukwu (PRO), Agoha Mike (Financial Secretary), Nkim Tangban (Ex-Officio), Nancy Igbomezie (Chairperson Women Commission) and Ikeji Anthonate (Secretary Women Commission).
In his address, the President General of TUC, Comrd. Festus Osifo, represented by Comrd. Ebaho Anthony, described the event as “historic and a time for deep reflection, stocktaking and strategic repositioning,” charging members on unity, and to “keep the fire of solidarity burning brighter.”
He congratulated Comrd Ibe and other SAC members and urged them to ensure unwavering commitment and impactful service.
In his acceptance speech, the Imo TUC Chairman, Comrd. Ibe, who was returned unopposed, thanked the Imo State TUC members for finding him worthy to serve the Congress again in such capacity. He urged them to consider the event as an opportunity to renew their commitments to the progress of the Congress, promising to work towards protecting the interest of members and improving the welfare of workers in the state.
Dwelling on how pertinent it is to prioritize on the welfare of the TUC workers in the state, Comrd Ibe expressed willingness to collaborate and engage in fruitful dialogues with the state government towards realizing the mandate of the Congress.
He also called on the members of the Congress to endeavor to work hand in gloves with the executive in achieving the mission and vision of the congress.
Giving his goodwill message, the Imo State Commissioner for Labour, Employment and Productivity, Prof. Boniface G. Nworgu, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Okeji Austin, disclosed the resolve of the state government towards implementing workers’ friendly policies and programmes, calling for strengthened and positive partnership between the Labour Centers (NLC and TUC) in the state and government.
Also, the Special Adviser, Labour Matters to the Governor, Comrd. Austin Chilakpu, expressed gratitude to the TUC members in the state for their peaceful conduct throughout the exercise. He congratulated the new leadership, urging them to lead by example, as he reaffirmed the commitment of the state government towards attending to the needs of workers.
Adding his voice, the Imo State Chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Comrd. Uche Chigemezu, asserted that NLC in the state would strengthen its collaboration with the TUC in advocating for the welfare of workers in the state. He stressed the importance of enthroning trustworthy leadership that protects the interest of members, and appreciated Imo TUC members for bringing competent individuals into leadership positions.
Members drawn from the various industrial unions that are affiliates of TUC in the state, prominent leaders within and outside the unions that participated in the event, include, Comrd. Tomii Toate Kpoh, (Conference Committee Chairman), and the Imo State Chairman, Nigerian Union of Agriculture and Allied Employees (NUAAE) and JNC Vice Chairman, Comrd. Ibe Enwo Oko, Hon. Peter Onu among others, were present at the conference.
