In view of the motion moved by Member Representing Ngor Okpala State Constituency, Rt. Hon. Obinna Egu, in respect to the gruesome murder of a pregnant woman named, Mrs Chinwendu Amadi, the Imo State House of Assembly has outrightly condemned the act and called on security agencies to ensure the culprits are brought to book.

The members made the call after the motion was presented by the Ngor Okpala lawmaker, seconded by Ehime Mbano Legislator and contributions made in its favour, during the House plenary on Thursday.

They also as part of the prayers of the motion urged the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to construct a perimeter fence within the airport premises to enhance security and prevent unauthorized access to the airport facilities.

Speaking on the motion, Egu noted that the people of Awogu Logara have resorted into mourning over the gruesome murder one of their own, late Mrs Chinwendu Amadi who was pregnant and almost due for delivery as at the time of her death few days ago.

“Mrs Amadi was a woman who sells “Okpa” on a daily basis to earn a living for herself and her family. After making it she goes to Airport car pack to make her sales.

“On her way back on that very day, she was accosted by some unknown persons, raped, stabbed several to the point of death.

“This came as a shock to my people as they do not know why anyone would commit such a heinous crime seeing how peaceful and accommodating the people of the LGA are.

“I commend the security agencies; Police, Army, Department of State Services (DSS), Air Force, among others for already taken steps towards uncovering the people that perpetrated this evil. I urge them to earnestly carry out proper investigations to ensure that the culprits faces the full wrath of the Law.

“This is also a call to FAAN to take steps towards building a perimeter fence around the Airport as it is not proper that the people of the community enter the premises of the airport anyhow and even go through the runway, which

was the case of Mrs Amadi as it was along that run way that the incident took place.

“The Imo State Government has done a lot of work at the airport to make it of international standard; introduced dual carriage road, electronic gate, installed night landing facilities, so FAAN should do it’s best to beef up it’s security to such standard too,’ Egu stated.

The lawmaker disclosing that in the entire airport area and the communities surrounding it, that there is no Police station, just a Police post, also appealed for a functional Police station to be sited within that area to forestall such from occuring in future.

Supporting the motion, the Mbaitoli lawmaker, Hon. Innocent Ikpamezie expressed dismay over the incident and reiterated the need for security agencies to get to the root of the matter.

He further urged community heads Chairmen, Traditional Rulers, President Generals, and other leaders in diverse LGAs to beef up their local vigilante, and not always wait for the government in such situation.
