At least six farmers were killed late Friday night when suspected armed bandits launched a fresh, deadly attack on Unguwar Wawa community in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.
The shocking incident was revealed on Saturday in a post on X by Bakatsine, a conflict and crisis journalist who monitors insecurity across Nigeria’s northwest and north-central regions.
According to the report, the attackers invaded the community around 10:00pm and opened fire on farmers who were working on their farmlands, throwing the area into chaos.
After the assault, the gunmen fled, leaving behind bodies, grief, and terrified residents unsure of what may come next.
The attack has further heightened fears over the worsening security situation in rural Niger communities, where farmers have increasingly become soft targets for violent gangs.
Residents are now demanding swift intervention from security agencies to protect vulnerable villages and prevent more bloodshed.
As of the time of filing this report, authorities and security agencies have yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
