Imo health insurance scheme: Dibiagwu Flag-off enrollment of 10,000 constituents… Lauds Gov Uzodimma for scheme

The Member Representing Ohaji Egbema/Oguta/Oru West Federal Constituency at the Federal House of Representatives Abuja, Hon. Dibiagwu Eugene Okechukwu has flagged off the enrollment of 10,000 of his constituents into the Imo State Government Health Insurance Scheme.

This took place on Friday, June 19, 2025, at the Oru West Council Headquarters, Mgbidi in Imo State, where the beneficiaries selected from the thirty-three Wards in the federal constituency, and many dignitaries from the area, and across the State gathered to witness the ceremony.

Addressing the people, Dibiagwu who is also the House Committee Chairman on Regional Development, pointed out that the flag off was in line with Governor Hope Uzodimma’s call on all well meaning Imo people to support his government in ensuring the health insurance scheme which his government is funding is accessed by Imolites in all nooks and crannies of the state.

He lauded the governor’s activities in the health sector which he said, has further been solidified through the inception, and implementation of the health insurance scheme

“The commitment of the Government of Imo State under the leadership of His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Hope Odidika Uzodimma, CON, in the health sector, especially in deliverable dividends, has been expanded in the life-saving Health Insurance Scheme.

“This Scheme as conceived and implemented, re-echoes and further reaffirms the sincerity of the Governor in matching words with actions in the fulfilment of his campaign promises, which had “Health for All” as one of the cardinal mantras,’Dibiagwu stated’.

He further disclosed his resolve to always work hand in gloves with Governor Uzodimma in promoting all his plans and programmes for the people, adding that for the health insurance scheme, he will ensure majority of his constituents benefits from it.

The federal house representative member also reassured the people of his commitment towards fulfilling his campaign promises of putting smiles on their faces through engaging in such schemes, other programmes, and projects.

Speaking earlier, the Secretary General of Imo State Health Insurance Agency (IMSHIA), Dr. Uchenna Ewelike who presented to Dibiagwu the receipt of the payment he made for the enrollment, reiterated that the health insurance scheme is one of Governor Hope Uzodimma’s initiatives of giving Imolites access to quality health care where they pay a minimum of N15,000 yearly for it.

Ewelike disclosed that the governor has been committed in funding the programme as according to him,15,487 cases has been handled in the Ohaji Egbema/Oguta/Oru West federal constituency.

Commending the lawmaker for keying into the scheme, Ewelike noted that their target is to enroll 100,000 persons in each of the 27 Local Government Areas in the state, which will sum up to 2.7million persons.

Others who took turns in applauding Governor Uzodimma for the health insurance scheme, and also commending the Federal Rep Member, Dibiagwu for supporting the government by enrolling his people were – Gideon Mefor; a leader in the Federal Constituency, Imo State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure; Ralph Nwosu, Oguta lawmaker in Imo State House of Assembly; Hon. Engr. Gilbert Nwosu, former Deputy Speaker of the State House; Donatus Ozoemena.

Others include: the Executive Chairman of Oguta; Ifeanyi Nani, an apex leader in Oguta; Hon. Williams Ejimakor Chairman of all Traditional Rulers in Oguta; HRH Eze Franklin Okafor, former Oru West SOLAD, Willie Okolieogwo, among others.

They also encourage other stakeholders in the state to emulate what the federal House member is doing in ensuring that not just the health insurance scheme, but other programmes of the government are accessed by the people.
