President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assured Nigerians that the economic pains caused by his administration’s reforms will soon yield positive results, declaring that the country has now stabilised and is gradually moving forward.
In a nationwide address to mark the third anniversary of his administration on Thursday, Tinubu acknowledged the severe hardship many Nigerians have faced since he assumed office in 2023, especially following the removal of fuel subsidy and the floating of the naira.
The President admitted that the tough policies triggered a sharp rise in the cost of living and placed enormous pressure on families and businesses across the country. However, he insisted the decisions were necessary to prevent Nigeria from sliding into deeper economic crisis.
“I remain deeply conscious of those sacrifices, and I assure you: your sacrifice has not been in vain,” Tinubu stated.
According to him, the reforms have started producing visible results, citing improvements in public finances, growing investor confidence, and a booming stock market.
Tinubu revealed that over 2,700 kilometres of roads and highways are currently under construction or rehabilitation nationwide, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano Road, and Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway.
He also pointed to ongoing rail modernisation projects, increased investments in the oil and gas sector, and improvements in local refining capacity aimed at reducing Nigeria’s dependence on imported petroleum products.
The President further disclosed that the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has disbursed more than ₦282 billion to support over 1.5 million students, while the Renewed Hope Housing Programme is delivering thousands of housing units across several states.
Speaking directly to Nigerian youths, Tinubu said his administration believes strongly in their potential and is investing heavily in digital skills, innovation, education, and entrepreneurship to create more opportunities.
On insecurity, the President said security agencies have intensified operations against terrorists, bandits, kidnappers, and other criminal groups, adding that the government remains committed to restoring peace and safety across the country.
Tinubu urged Nigerians not to lose hope, stressing that nation-building requires patience, sacrifice, and unity.
“We must choose hope over despair, unity over division, and nation-building over narrow interests,” he said.
The President expressed optimism that Nigeria would emerge stronger and more prosperous despite current challenges.
