Tragedy on Benue Road: Former SSG’s Final Journey Ends in Horror After Deadly Ambush

Former Secretary to the Benue State Government (SSG), Prof. David Salifu, has died following a violent attack by suspected kidnappers along a highway in Taraba State.
Salifu reportedly sustained gunshot injuries when armed assailants attacked him while he was travelling to Makurdi through Wukari, Taraba State, on Thursday.

According to reports, the former top government official initially survived the attack and was rushed to a hospital in Makurdi for urgent medical treatment. However, despite efforts by medical personnel, he later succumbed to his injuries on Thursday night.
The incident has sparked concern over growing insecurity on major routes in the region, with many awaiting an official response from security agencies.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the Benue State Police Command nor other relevant security authorities had issued a formal statement regarding the deadly attack.
Meanwhile, the crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State has taken a fresh twist, with two rival factions presenting Certificates of Return to separate candidates for the party’s 2027 governorship ticket.
Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Michael Aondoakaa (SAN), received his Certificate of Return at the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja after emerging as the candidate of the faction aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
In a parallel development, the rival faction led by former Minister of Special Duties, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN), presented its Certificate of Return to Emmanuel Agbo, Director-General of the PDP Governors’ Forum, whom it declared winner of its own governorship primary.
